We had a lovely afternoon tea in the garden recently to celebrate a special day.
It was kind of impromptu and didn’t strictly follow the proper tradition. You’re supposed to cut the crusts off the sandwiches to start with, but my family was way too hungry to waste any part of it. Most of what we had to eat couldn’t fit on the table. Here’s a rundown of what we had:
Pimms with lemonade
Fresh strawberries with a sprinkling of sugar, lime juice, together with fresh single cream
Sandwiches: egg & cress, prawn mayonnaise (with a twist), smoked salmon, hummus
Plain and Fruit Scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream
Victoria Sponge Cake
Choice of tea: we opted for earl grey and sunshine grey (I love my Twinings)
The scones, cake, and the sandwich fillings (except for the hummus) were homemade. We had a great time, making the most of the glorious weather.
